Reveal effect in compiz fusion

okay, one effect on a mac that I love is the "Reveal" effect. Where it scales all the open windows down onto one screen so you can see them and choose whichever one you want to switch to.

If you're running CompizFusion (say, on Ubuntu), open the CompizConfig Settings Manager (right-click on desktop, go to "Appearances" tab and select the "preferences" button next to the "Custom" option). Then go to the "Window Management" section and click on the "Scale" option (it should already be checked - if not, do so), then go to the "actions" tab and choose your action to activate it (I like to use the upper right corner to show all the open windows).

this is one of my most favorite effects, and probably the most practical one I use (wobbly windows being the most unpractical but most visually pleasing!).

(this info much thanks to this thread)

I've Got Gutsy and a Guide!

Well, recently I upgraded to Ubuntu's newest version: Gutsy Gibbon (7.10). The actual upgrade process was running rough, and I decided to go for a clean start. I definitely love this version of Ubuntu, and especially Compiz Fusion. I had some trouble tweaking it for Kubuntu, but It's definitely worth it.

I created a "Simple Setup Guide" to log everything I did, so if you're in need of a guide to some of the first things you should tweak when installing Ubuntu Gutsy, then check it out here.

new visual effects!

okey dokey folks. Compiz and Beryl have remerged and come out with this completely awesome desktop effects package called Compiz Fusion. Here's a video of it:

cool stuff, eh?! Yeah, I can't wait to try it - but I'm working on some other projects at the moment (like redoing my website from a linux editor), so it's going on my list of things to do later...
